Mosaic Mania!

Hi ya'll! Its been a few days since I've posted so I figured I better get a post in! Well, thanks to pinterest, I've taken on a new hobby and I have FALLEN IN LOVE with mosaics! I have had so much fun shopping for glass pieces, bases, resin and tiles! I have spent the better part of 3 days doing nothing but mosaics! I'm addicted. These pieces were really so easy and fun to create, and remind me of beautiful stained glass windows! All I did was purchase some old picture frames from the rescue mission, take the backing off, glue glass gems and mosaic pieces to the glass and then mix and pour an epoxy resin over it (which can be a little tricky and aggravating). Then let it dry for 24 hours and it absolutely beautiful!

MY BIRTHDAY PRESENT!

Well, on Oct 5th I turned another year older....and I just had to share a picture with all of you of my birthday present from my wonderful-at-the-moment husband got me!! Its a sun conure parrott and its name  is Sunny! Isnt he/she beautiful!
And I must say that he is the perfect bird! He is only about 3 months old, so he has a little more growing to do, but once he matures, most of his feathers will be a beautiful yellow, orange color! He was hand raised and spoon fed by a local lady which made him as sweet as he is. He LOVES to cuddle and crawl up on my shoulder and its almost impossible to keep him from nesting in my hair when he wants to sleep! He's so funny!
Oh, and yes that is a pink stripe in my hair in honor of breast cancer awareness month!

Newborn Christmas Sparkle Hats

Newborn/Infant Hats

These are some Christmas hats that I have been working on the past few evenings for a charity named  Bella's Babies. This is a wonderful charity that provides warm hats, booties, blankies, burial gowns for the babies born at Southside Hospital on Long Island. Apparently over 200 babies are born every month at this hospital to women who do not even have anything warm to take baby home in! Once I read about this charity, I had to help.
These hats and more like them will also go to another charity group in GA called Sweet Lil Peas, which is a group that donates to hospitals across the country for premature infants. Below is another style hat that I'm working on for the lil girly girls!
Aren't they just adorable??!! I can just imagine the little babies that will go home wearing them! I encourage all of you to visit these charity sites and read up on them, and see if you cant donate a few hats or so! These hats are super easy to crochet! Here is my pattern below:

I used I love this Yarn from Hobby Lobby.
size 5.0 hook

chain 3
1st row: 12 dc in last chain from hook. ss in top of first dc, chain 2
2nd row: 2 dc in each dc around (24 dc) ss in first dc, chain 2
3rd row: 1 dc in first dc, 2dc in next stitch. repeat this patten around. ss to first dc. chain 2
4th -11th row: dc in each stitch around, ss to beginning dc and chain 2.
on 11th row, I ss to beginning dc and ch 1. Then I worked a crapstitch around, which is essentially a single chain in reverse.
Then you can embellish the hat anyway you would like! a pom pom on or flowers on the side for girls! Its so easy.

Happy Hooking!

Rag Rug!!

Hello my peeps! Heehee...I know, I don't HAVE ANY PEEPS YET! So could SOMEBODY PLEASE start following me or leave some comments??? :-)

Ok, so I've been working like mad on some infinity scarf orders I've gotten the past couple of days so I haven't had much time to work on anything else. However, I have started working on a rag rug! I'm so excited about this because it is my first time trying one! This is a great eco-friendly, self sustainable sort of project and is right up my alley.

First off I went to the rescue mission to buy up a couple of old sheets with some pretty patterns...and they were only like 2-3 dollars a piece!! Then I began cutting them in continuous strips and rolling up into balls...just like yarn! I'm no way near finished yet, because I've only been able to work on it hit and miss in between everything else I'm working on! Anyways..here is a picture of the beginning of the project! I will post more as I move along on it!

Pictures of Chemo Cap

Ok, so I did Zumba this morning again! Yay! Im so proud of myself! And yes, it kicked my butt....AGAIN! Gotta love it, right? Its alot of fun, even though I'm new at it and stay confused through the whole class....but I figure the best way to get past the new aches and pain and to learn it is to jump in with both feet and go EVERYDAY! I think I can do it!

Ok, I promised that I would post some pics of the chemo cap that I finished a few days ago....well here they are! Isn't it bootiful? It actually works up pretty quickly! I need to make some up in different shades of pinks now!
For anyone who would like to try this pattern, it can be found here:chemo turban

So this afternoon, I will be working on additonal "pink" chemo caps for women and little girls. I guess I should work on a few mens and boys colors also....
Then....we are taking our little ones to the CIRCUS!!! yay! They just got into town today! I'm so excited. I'll take some pics and post tommorrow!

Ok ya'll...drag out those crochet hooks, knitting needles or whatever your medium is and GET CREATIVE....and remember, I would love to see what ya'll are working on!

HAPPY CREATING!!

Busy Day!

Sorry everyone, but no new photos to post today! I have been super busy and my younguns are literally crawling all over me as I type this post! I feel like I'm swatting at bugs...lol..

First off, I tried ZUMBA for the first time this morning!!! yay!!! I've have SO got to get back in shape! Zumba KICKED my booty! But it was so much fun!!

I recently joined the Crochet for Cancer charity and finished a beautiful turban chemo cap and will post pics tommorrow. I also finished a few newborn and preemie hats for another wonderful charity called "Bellas Babies" for Southside Hospital in NJ. I have been  very slack with this charity lately so I'm trying to double my production to make up for my past slackness!

As most of you know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, so after Zumba class I went to my favorite yarn shop and stocked up on pink yarn.....and of course found about a gazillion other prints and colors that I fell in LOVE with. (I'm not a yarn hoarder,,,,really!....yeah right! I so AM  a yarn hoarder and proud of it.) However, out of love for my husband, and my quest for going a full day WITHOUT having him yell at me for overspending, I managed to only buy about 1/2 a gazillion skeins of yarn....teeheeheehee.....
After I got home I decided to experiement making a candy corn hat for Halloween. Well, after spending about an hour on it, I tried it on my lovely 3 year old daughter.....it looked sooo retarded...seriously. So I ripped it out and will try a different pattern later this evening!

Ok...so time for me to get the lil ones ready for bed before they yank ALL of my hair out trying to climb me like a jungle gym. Then I'm gonna crochet for a bit.
In observance of National Breast Cancer Awarness month, I urge all of you crochet and knitters to locate a crochet for cancer group, or locate a cancer center near you and see if you cant donate some nice chemo caps! What a wonderful way to give to the community and help others who are sick! Imagine how nice it must feel to those undergoing chemo treatments  to recieve a handmade cap to keep their heads warm from someone who doesn't even know them, yet understands what they are going through and just wishes to send some love and support? I know it would make me feel great!

Happy Creating!

New Slouchy Beanie

Hello fellow crafters and crocheters! Here is a new slouchy beanie I just finished this weekend! I found the pattern at a blog I am following. However, I started out using her pattern with a different yarn and bigger hook, so I ended up having to make alterations to the pattern to make the hat work for me. This hat is super slouchy and oh-so-cute! You can find Jenny's pattern here: Jenny's Slouchy beanie pattern.
I just love her blog, she creates the most beautiful hats and such!

Anyways, I just finished sewing the 'handmade with love' charms on my slipper order and I haven't taken pictures yet, but I will get to that in a few and then will post the pics! Then I will get to work on some preemie beanies and chemo caps for different charities and causes....more on that later!!

And for all of you who need a little motivation......get off the computer and get CREATING...and I wanna see your work!! :))

HAPPY CREATING!
